The unique mixed-media style and technique have attracted collectors and art enthusiasts who appreciate the originality, personality and emotion woven into each piece. Rainey’s originals also feature a hidden heart—a signature detail that reflects her belief in love, compassion, courage, and self-worth.

Rainey’s collection of characters are named after family members, friends, and Facebook followers. Using their names allow her to create an intimate connection between her art and the people who inspire her. Intentionally representing a wide range of skin tones, Rainey celebrates the beauty and individuality found in every culture and hue.

The Story Behind Her Art

After taking a hiatus from her art career, Rainey returned to creating in 2005 after learning about a young child who struggled to appreciate her dark-brown skin, facial features, hair texture, and overall appearance.

The child felt isolated and longed to fit in with her classmates. She wished for lighter skin, different-colored eyes and was uncertain about the beauty of her natural hair. At a young age she had begun associating beauty, popularity, intelligence, and happiness with lighter skin tones. Her confidence was fading, and she was unable to recognize the beauty she already possessed.

Inspired by the child’s experience, Rainey created her first original painting, a character named Zora.

Knowing the painting had been inspired by her story, the child connected emotionally with the message behind the artwork. Rainey and the child shared a heartfelt conversation about embracing differences, recognizing individual beauty, finding courage, and learning to love oneself. Regardless of the age, it is a reminder that every person has value and that there is beauty in being uniquely and authentically yourself. That experience helped shape the heart of Rainey’s artistic mission.

Art With a Message

Rainey believes art can do more than decorate a room - it can speak to your soul, encourages reflection and is a statement piece in any room.

Her message is simple but powerful - regardless of what is on your to-do list or how many roads you travel on your journey toward your goals, you must always remember that you are worthy of great things and blessings. Your path should never be the same as another's. Find your interests, learn from your failures and grow thru experiences.

Rainey is always encouraging others to love themselves, walk in gratitude, extend kindness, and support others along the way. In a world affected by racism, greed, jealousy, and bullying, she believes that intentionally promoting, supporting, and guiding others can make meaningful differences.

Artist, Mentor & Lifelong Learner

Beyond creating her own artwork, Rainey is well-known for mentoring other artists. She generously shares practical ideas, personal experiences, analytical skills, and lessons learned throughout her artistic journey. Her willingness to encourage and guide fellow artists has made her a valued resource within the creative community. Always learning and evolving, Rainey regularly visits museums, attends gallery events, supports fellow artists at their exhibitions and showcases, and remains curious about new techniques, perspectives, and creative possibilities.

Art for Homes, Businesses & Collectors

Rainey’s original artwork, reprints, and commissioned pieces are available in a variety of sizes to complement residential interiors, corporate spaces, home offices, and other design environments nationwide.

A Journey of Perseverance

Rainey’s creativity is inseparable from her story of perseverance and determination. She is an advocate for domestic abuse and stroke awareness, as well as, a survivor of a broken neck and strokes. These experiences have contributed to her perspective on resilience, gratitude, and the importance of continuing to move forward. Her life and art reflect a consistent belief: - challenges may become part of our story, but they do not have to define our future.

Outside of the studio, Rainey enjoys shopping at HomeGoods, listening to music - especially DC Go-Go - shoe shopping, collecting heart-shaped paperweights, white vases and unique giraffe statues and items.
